3rd ESG Global Initiative Forum
3rd ESG Global Initiative Forum
The 3rd ESG Global Initiative Forum, hosted by the Bicycle Alliance for Sustainability (BAS), opened on March 26, 2026. The event brought together key representatives from government, industry, and academia, both domestically and internationally, to explore the achievements and future development of the bicycle industry in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. Building on the spirit and momentum of the previous two forums, this year’s program deepened its focus on critical issues such as human rights, climate action, and low-carbon transition, demonstrating Taiwan’s bicycle industry’s strong commitment and concrete actions toward sustainability.
Young Liu, BAS Chairman
The forum officially commenced at 9:30 a.m., with Deputy Director General Pei-Li Chen of the International Trade Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Inspector Tseng-Ming Hsu of the Industrial Development Administration in attendance. Distinguished domestic participants included Ying-Jin Wu, Chairman of the Taiwan Bicycle Association; Cheng-Chung Pai, Chairman of the Cycling & Health Tech Industry R&D Center; Li-Chu Liu, Chairperson of YouBike Co., Ltd.; Mei-Wen Wang, Executive Director of the Cycling Culture Museum Foundation; and Hsiu-Wen Chen, President of the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange, among other key industry leaders. Their presence helped establish a vital cross-sector collaboration platform.

Three Core Themes: Human Rights, Climate Action, and Low-Carbon Transition
This year’s forum highlighted three key initiatives:
- Human Rights Due Diligence
Building on last year’s Code of Conduct initiative, BAS further advanced the “Human Rights Due Diligence Initiative” this year. With the support from domestic and international associations, the initiative strengthens supply chain management and labor rights protection, demonstrating Taiwan’s proactive commitment to international human rights standards.

- Climate Risk and Decarbonization Achievements
BAS released the results of physical climate risk assessments conducted for its members, providing adaptation recommendations for 286 sites to help companies address extreme climate challenges. As of 2025, approximately 89% of members have completed organizational greenhouse gas inventories, and 54% have conducted product carbon footprint assessments—indicating that decarbonization efforts are being effectively implemented across the industry.

- Promotion of Cycling Carbon Credit Mechanism
BAS continues to advance the “cycling carbon credit” mechanism. This year’s forum further outlined the future direction for building a carbon credit platform, aiming to transform cycling activities into quantifiable carbon reduction value through data-driven and systematic approaches, and to establish a globally innovative demonstration model.

Showcasing Industry Sustainability Practices
In addition to presenting the outcomes of BAS’s carbon reduction training programs, the forum invited member companies to share their ESG transformation experiences. These included green building initiatives by NUVO, social responsibility practices by MARWI, and sustainable innovation competitions by KMC. Through competitions and award programs integrating recycled materials and creative design, the forum further promoted the concept of circular economy and stimulated sustainable innovation within the industry.
